Basketball Recap: Chapel Hill Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Victory

Chapel Hill came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.4 points), and they left with even more momentum. They breezed past the Riverside-Durham Pirates to the tune of 58-15. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-9.

Dezariyah Clark continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8-for-18 on her way to 22 points and eight steals. Those 22 points gave her a new career-high. Rihanna Gregory was another key player, putting up eight points and seven steals.

Chapel Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 50 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Riverside-Durham saw an underclassman step up: freshman Au'Nehstii Hagans posted nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Taylor, who scored six points.

Chapel Hill pushed their record up to 17-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.0 points over those games. As for Riverside-Durham, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Coincidentally, Chapel Hill and Riverside-Durham will both be playing Jordan the next time they take the court. Chapel Hill will head out to face Jordan at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Riverside-Durham will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
