New Waverly came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Shepherd Pirates. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted against the Pirates since August 17, 2019.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was New Waverly who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 22-25, 15-9.

New Waverly's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Shepherd, they dropped their record down to 1-2 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

New Waverly didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against New Caney on the 15th. As for Shepherd, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Brazos on the 16th.
