Softball Recap: Platt Comes Up Short

Platt had lost 11 straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-19 to make it 12. They came up short against the Maloney Spartans, falling 15-1. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly 14 runs.

As for Maloney, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.

For Maloney's part, Stella Cicero made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Cicero has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Remi Rosado was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs. Alaina High-Aresco was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Coming up, Platt will welcome Wilcox RVT at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Maloney, they are taking a road trip to challenge Lewis Mills at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Maloney's pitchers better be ready for this one: Lewis Mills has averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
