Softball Recap: First Baptist Academy Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but First Baptist Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past the Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish 8-7. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 11-4 victory the Fighting Irish walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2025.

Ava Mitchell made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, Addison Harbison was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Rayliegh Jacobs was another key player, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs and one double.

First Baptist Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

First Baptist Academy now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Knoxville Catholic, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-10.

Coming up, First Baptist Academy will take on Providence Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. First Baptist Academy's pitchers better be ready for this one: Providence Academy has averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Knoxville Catholic, they will square off against Girls Preparatory School at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
