Basketball Recap: South Johnston's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

South Johnston lost to Southern Wayne back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The South Johnston Trojans strolled past the Southern Wayne Saints with points to spare, taking the game 53-35. The win was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Several Saints players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Demetrius Elliot, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Moore, who posted ten points and eight rebounds.

The victory got South Johnston back to even at 7-7. As for Southern Wayne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

South Johnston will take on East Wake at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. East Wake knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully South Johnston likes a good challenge. As for Southern Wayne, they will host Fike at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fike knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 contests -- so hopefully Southern Wayne likes a good challenge.
