Preview: St. Joseph Central Irish vs. Huntington Highlanders
St. Joseph Central has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Huntington Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Joseph Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Huntington likes a good challenge.
St. Joseph Central posted their biggest win yet this season on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 61-23 victory over Tug Valley at home. Given St. Joseph Central's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Tug Valley is ranked 90th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Joseph Central found their leader in underclassman Ava Gallion, who scored 19 points along with six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Campbell Lee, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Huntington scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They put the hurt on Hurricane with a sharp 70-48 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Huntington.
St. Joseph Central is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Huntington, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6.
