Basketball Recap: Seton Catholic Central Takes a Loss

Seton Catholic Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 67-53 bruising from the Northeastern Clinton Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 59-40 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Seton Catholic Central lost, don't look at Michael Mannix. Despite the final result, he went 14-for-29 on his way to 41 points and five boards. That was a full 77.4% of Seton Catholic Central's points, marking the 13th time in a row Mannix has posted more than a third of the team's points. Matt Debay was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, Seton Catholic Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Seton Catholic Central now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Northeastern Clinton, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-7.

Seton Catholic Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-36 loss against Wells on the 15th. As for Northeastern Clinton, they will host AuSable Valley at 2:00 p.m. on February 22nd.
