Softball Preview: Collinsville Pirates vs. Alvord Bulldogs

Collinsville has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Alvord Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

On Tuesday, Collinsville came up short against Muenster and fell 6-1.

Shelby Derzapf spent all seven innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Audrey Miller was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2. Jaydee Matlock was another key contributor, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Alvord lost a close one when they played last Tuesday but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Friday was a bit more commanding. Their tough 18-1 loss to Muenster might stick with them for a while. Alvord's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Collinsville's loss dropped their record down to 15-9-1. As for Alvord, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Everything went Collinsville's way against Alvord in their previous meeting back in March as Collinsville made off with a 10-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Collinsville since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
