Basketball Recap: Austintown-Fitch Comes Up Short

Austintown-Fitch lost against Howland back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Austintown-Fitch Falcons fell just short of the Howland Tigers by a score of 42-39. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Falcons have suffered since January 20, 2024.

Defeat or not, Austintown-Fitch got some senior leadership from Samantha Severn and Rachel Spalding. Severn posted 15 points along with eight boards and five steals, while Spalding put up 11 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for Severn.

Austintown-Fitch has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Howland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-10.

Austintown-Fitch wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-42 win against Cardinal Mooney on the 5th. Howland has also already played their next game, a 51-43 victory against Boardman on the 5th.
