Desert View is 0-10 against Cienega since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Jaguars will head out to face off against the Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. Desert View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last seven times Desert View and Buena had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Jaguars fell 10-5 to the Colts on Thursday. Jaguars fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Colts since on Thursday.
Leyla Garza was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Myla Sutton was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cienega got the win against Nogales on Thursday by a conclusive 17-4. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 18 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Sophia Butt made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Allison Mullen and Micaela Valenzuela did most of the damage at the plate: Mullen went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and three doubles, while Valenzuela went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. What's more, Valenzuela posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Melissa Barron also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Cienega was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .541. They are a perfect 17-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Cienega has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Desert View, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Desert View has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. However, it's not like Cienega struggles in that department as they've averaged .469. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Desert View might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Cienega in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
