Baseball Recap: Hart Comes Up Short

Hart extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 10-11-1. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Castaic Coyotes. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Coyotes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Hart got a good showing from Cayden Kollasch, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kollasch has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Josh Whitson made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Thompson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

As for Castaic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On Castaic's side, Orion Gonzalez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gonzalez was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Nathan Dudra was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

While Hart had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
