Basketball Game Preview: Oxon Hill Clippers vs. Largo Lions

The Oxon Hill Clippers will venture away from home to face off against the Largo Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Oxon Hill comes in on four and Largo on 12.

If Oxon Hill beats Largo with 56 points on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Oxon Hill beat Central on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 56-51. Given the Clippers' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Falcons are ranked 225th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Oxon Hill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Donnell Dorsey led the charge by putting up 16 points. Dorsey's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nigel Harris, who posted 14 points.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Largo challenged Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North on Thursday. Largo blew past Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North 90-67. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 23 points or more this season.

Largo's victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24.4 points. As for Oxon Hill, their record is now 16-3.

Things could have been worse for Oxon Hill, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 48-33 loss to Largo in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Largo's Cameron Ward, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Now that Oxon Hill knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
