Baseball Recap: Eustis Finds Playoff Glory Versus Mulberry

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Eustis walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mulberry on Tuesday, sneaking past 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Eustis has posted since February 28th.

Couper Gatch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Gatch was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Andrew Walker and Ethan Jackson did most of the damage at the plate: Walker went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Jackson went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Jackson is becoming a predictor of Eustis' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 10-13 when he doesn't). Jacob Lucroy also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Eustis' victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-13. As for Mulberry, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-8.

Eustis will have a chance to go back-to-back against Mulberry: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
