The Arroyo Dons will head out on the road to square off against the El Cerrito Gauchos at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Arroyo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Arroyo's last matchup with Castro Valley could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest last Wednesday. The Dons lost 16-3 to the Trojans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Dons have suffered against the Trojans since March 26, 2021.
Aneesa Aguon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, El Cerrito put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Hercules as they made off with a 29-7 victory. The Gauchos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Natalia Gawlikowski was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Arlie Tatum was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI. What's more, she posted four hits, the most she's had since back in February. Olive Calvin was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
El Cerrito kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
El Cerrito pushed their record up to 13-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.4 runs over those games. As for Arroyo, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Arroyo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .389. However, it's not like El Cerrito struggles in that department as they've averaged .394. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
