Softball Recap: Gilbert Comes Up Short

Gilbert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against the Higley Knights, falling 17-10. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-7 on Monday.

Lexie Kyger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Somiya Bryant was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Gilbert's record is now 8-14. As for Higley, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-17.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Gilbert will challenge Dobson at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Higley, they will take on Williams Field at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Black Hawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.47 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
