Northgate and Acalanes are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Broncos are taking a road trip to face off against the Dons at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Northgate is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Northgate took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against College Park, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Broncos had just enough and edged out the Falcons 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Broncos have posted since May 6, 2024.
Mackenzie Hudson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Northgate saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashley Herman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Northgate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.
Meanwhile, Acalanes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 17-0 to Benicia.
Northgate's record is now 8-10. As for Acalanes, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
Acalanes' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northgate has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Acalanes, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Northgate's sizable advantage in that area, the Dons will need to find a way to close that gap.
Northgate couldn't quite get it done against Acalanes in their previous matchup two weeks ago as they fell 14-11. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
