Basketball Recap: Central Spartans vs. Point Loma Pointers
It's playoff time, and Central had no trouble coming through when it counted. They breezed past the Point Loma Pointers to the tune of 64-14 on Wednesday. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while the Pointers are ranked 1122nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Central to victory were Maryanne Barrett and Victoria Zamora. Barrett almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine steals, while Zamora posted ten points in addition to seven assists and five steals. The dominant performance gave Zamora a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Julianna Estrada, who put up eight points and three steals.
They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Point Loma only posted two assists.
Central has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 16-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points over those games. As for Point Loma, their loss dropped their record down to 5-19.
Looking ahead, Central will face off against Valley Center at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Valley Center has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Point Loma does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
