Volleyball Game Preview: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. Sweetwater Red Devils

The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders will take on the Sweetwater Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mater Dei Catholic is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since March 22, 2024 on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Escondido Charter.

Mater Dei Catholic wouldn't go down easily and took Escondido Charter into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 15-8.

Meanwhile, Sweetwater waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Mariners as they made off with a 3-0 win. The Red Devils not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11th (when they won 3-0).

Sweetwater was especially dominant in the second set. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-10, 25-18.

Mater Dei Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won 21 of their last 24 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-10 record this season. As for Sweetwater, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 28-10.
