Baseball Recap: Laguna Acoma Comes Up Short

Laguna Acoma extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 12-10 in the process. They came up short against the Oak Grove Classical Academy Owls, falling 15-2. That's two games in a row now that the Hawks have lost by exactly 13 runs.

As for Oak Grove Classical Academy, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-10. Considering they have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Oak Grove Classical Academy's part, Isaac Rush was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). Rush has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of Oak Grove Classical Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-10 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Oak Grove Classical Academy got a massive performance out of James Schroeder, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, Schroeder is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Grayson Grebe was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Oak Grove Classical Academy beat Laguna Acoma by a score of 18-1 later that day.
