Soccer Game Preview: Escondido vs. Mission Vista

The Escondido Cougars will take on Mission Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Escondido is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 4.4 goals per game this season.

Mission Vista is hoping to do what Escondido Charter couldn't last Friday: put an end to Escondido's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Escondido's defense stepped up to hand Escondido Charter a 2-0 shutout. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Tigers are ranked 667th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gilbert Pina and Cesar Duran scored both of Escondido's goals, bringing their combined season tally to seven goals.

Meanwhile, Mission Vista won against Caruthers on Saturday with three goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Monday. Mission Vista sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Santana. The win made it back-to-back victories for Mission Vista.

Escondido's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1-1. As for Mission Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2-3.

Escondido came out on top in a nail-biter against Mission Vista when the teams last played back in January, sneaking past 1-0. Will Escondido repeat their success, or does Mission Vista have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
