Softball Recap: Tuscola's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Tuscola extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 5-6 in the process. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly two runs.

Kinzie Cleland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Boyer, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alaina Smith, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Teutopolis, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only two runs.

On Teutopolis' side, Malea Helmink made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that Helmink has launched this season.

Looking ahead, Tuscola will host Sullivan at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Teutopolis, they will face off against Marshall at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday.
