Baseball Recap: Oliver Ames Comes Up Short

Oliver Ames extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 4-11 in the process. They fell 6-1 to the Mansfield Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 back in April.

As for Mansfield, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-10. Six seems to be a good number for they as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Mansfield's part, Luke Rogan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. Rogan is becoming a predictor of the Hornets' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 6-1 (and 8-9 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ethan Kucharski, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Darrian Sanders was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Oliver Ames will be playing at home against Dighton-Rehoboth Regional at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Mansfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
