Yuma Catholic won the last time they faced Kingman and things went their way on Friday too. The Shamrocks put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 18-2 win. Considering the Shamrocks have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Leonel Avelar was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Yuma Catholic got a massive performance out of Erik Topete, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Kingman, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 13-4 record.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yuma Catholic will head out to face off against Parker at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
