Softball Recap: Clinton Comes Up Short

Clinton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against the El Paso-Gridley Titans, falling 11-5. The Maroons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Titans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Aliviyah Haynes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered 11 runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Riley Fentress made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 1-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hadley Humble, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Clinton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for El Paso-Gridley, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7.

Looking ahead, Clinton will face off against Warrensburg-Latham at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for El Paso-Gridley, they will head out to challenge Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Titans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
