Softball Recap: Lindale Wins Going Away Against Athens

Lindale's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Athens Hornets with a sharp 14-5 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.

AJ McPherson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Makynli Zemer was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Merrick Gary, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Lindale is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. Athens dropped their record down to 9-6 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Canton's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Lindale's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Athens, they will square off against Brownsboro at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
