Preview: South Pointe Griffins vs. Heritage Academy Heroes
After two games on the road, South Pointe is heading back home. They will take on The Heritage Academy Heroes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Pointe comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
South Pointe played against Imagine Prep and lost via forfeit.
Heritage Academy put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Canyon State Academy, posting a 42-6 win on the road. The result was nothing new for Heritage Academy, who have now won five matchups by 23 points or more so far this season.
Heritage Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Scott led the charge by picking up 123 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Scott was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 62 yards. Another player making a difference was Kolton Forsgren, who rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries.
Another reason for the win was Heritage Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Ryan Nelson and Varis Carling who racked up five sacks between them.
South Pointe's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Heritage Academy, their win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-0.
Everything came up roses for South Pointe against Heritage Academy in their previous matchup back in September of 2017 as the squad secured a 46-6 victory. Does South Pointe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Heritage Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
