Baseball Recap: San Mateo Takes a Loss

San Mateo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 14-8 to the Half Moon Bay Cougars. The Bearcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Hayato Nishiyama made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of San Mateo's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Christian Louie, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

San Mateo now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Half Moon Bay, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: San Mateo beat the Cougars by a score of 7-3 on Thursday.
