Football Recap: Burkeville Mustangs vs. Texas Christian Tigers
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Burkeville). They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat the Texas Christian Tigers 79-47 at home. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their seven-point performance the matchup before.
Brandon Lewis was his usual excellent self, rushing for 371 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 19.5 yards per carry, and also picking up 30 receiving yards and a touchdown. He showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 53 yards.
Burkeville wouldn't let Texas Christian keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. Dejuan Cheatham was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance. Byron Johnson was another major factor on D, making 11 total tackles and defending a pass.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Burkeville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 518 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
The win got Burkeville back to even at 2-2. As for Texas Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burkeville will venture away from home to square off against Legacy Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burkeville is facing Legacy Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Legacy Christian Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Texas Christian, they will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against O'Connell at 7:00 p.m.
