Softball Recap: Springfield Comes Up Short

Springfield extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping them down to 3-7. They lost 10-0 to the Northmont Thunderbolts. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunderbolts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 on Friday.

Springfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jazzdyn Frock, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Northmont, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

On Northmont's side, Jadyn Johnson (2026) made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Johnson (2026) has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Northmont let Rylie Meeds (2026) and Adee Kautz (2027) run wild. Meeds (2026) went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Kautz (2027) went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Kautz (2027) a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Khloe Gaffin (2028), who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Looking ahead, Springfield will head out on the road to square off against Fairborn at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Skyhawks have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Northmont, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Springboro at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Thunderbolts will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
