Maddie Blair made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Priya Sakpal was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Molly Becker was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Forestville Central made easy work of Brocton on Wednesday and carried off a 13-1 victory. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by six runs or more this season.
Like Silver Creek, Forestville Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Megan Gruber. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Gruber was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with five runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Christian, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexandra Kerstetter, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Forestville Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Forestville Central's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Silver Creek, they now have a winning record of 4-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Silver Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Forestville Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Silver Creek came out on top in a nail-biter against Forestville Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Do the Black Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
