Basketball Recap: Hillcrest Triumphs

Hillcrest posted their closest win since December 22, 2023 on Thursday. They skirted past the Hendersonville Bearcats 67-64. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 67th in South Carolina, while the Bearcats are ranked 223rd in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hendersonville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caden Thomas, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 10 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylon Wynn, who posted nine points and three steals.

Hillcrest is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Hendersonville, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-3.

Hillcrest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 79-68 defeat against Crest on the 27th. As for Hendersonville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 73-60 loss against Burns on the 27th.
