Softball Recap: Bishop Carroll Takes a Loss

Bishop Carroll had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-12 to make it 12. They came up short against the Bedford Bisons, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bisons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-0 back in March.

As for Bedford, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

For Bedford's part, Emily Pratt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Pratt has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Leah Nee and Sammi Shoemaker did most of the damage at the plate: Nee went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Shoemaker got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Nee has posted since back in March. Bailey Mickle was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop Carroll will host Richland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Bedford, they will face off against North Star at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bisons are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
