Softball Recap: Knox Central Comes Up Short

If Knox Central was feeling good fresh off their 20-2 takedown of Williamsburg last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Knox Central took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Avonworth Antelopes on Sunday.

Jayme Swafford was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hannah Melton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Knox Central's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Avonworth, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Knox Central will host IC Catholic Prep at 8:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Avonworth, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against South Fayette at 7:00 p.m. Avonworth will need to watch out since South Fayette has now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
