Volleyball Recap: Manvel Mavericks vs. Stratford Spartans

Manvel and Stratford squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Manvel had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Stratford Spartans by a score of 3-2. The Mavericks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2019.

Manvel took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 15-9.

Their offense was headlined by Kaycee Pennie and Nevaeh English, who picked up 12 kills apiece. They got some help from Kenedy Massie and her 42 assists. Emerson Chang controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Stratford was led to victory by Logan Sykes and Brooke Mcafee. Sykes had 13 digs and two aces, while Mcafee had 11 digs.

The defeat snapped Manvel's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 30-14 record. As for Stratford, the win was the 19th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 40-2.

Manvel does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Stratford, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Shadow Creek on the 15th.
