Softball Recap: Southwestern Comes Up Short

Southwestern dropped their record down to 3-7 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Olean Huskies, falling 13-0. The Trojans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Huskies from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Olean, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games.

For Olean's part, Emma Edwards was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Edwards has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Olean got a massive performance out of Riley Sudbrook, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Sudbrook is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ava Finch1, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, Southwestern will head out to square off against Falconer at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Olean has already played their next match (against Salamanca), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
