Soccer Game Preview: Hillcrest vs. Lakeside

The Hillcrest Trojans will venture away from home to challenge the Lakeside Lancers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hillcrest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.1 goals per game this season.

Hillcrest is headed into Thursday's following a draw, the team's first since December 10. Neither they nor Canyon Springs could gain the upper hand on Tuesday so the two teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Hillcrest's goal came courtesy of Daniel Hernandez, who's now up to three this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lakeside). They never let Rancho Christian onto the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Tuesday. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 434th, while the Eagles are ranked 1157th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

With that draw, Hillcrest's record moves to 5-6-4. As for Lakeside, they now have a winning record of 5-4-1.

Hillcrest took their win against Lakeside in their previous meeting back in December of 2017 by a conclusive 5-2. In that contest, Hillcrest amassed a halftime lead of 4-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
