The McCutcheon Mavericks will head out to square off against the Benton Central Bison at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McCutcheon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
McCutcheon barely beat West Lafayette the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mavericks blew past the Red Devils 18-7 on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mavericks considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Kaidynn Peckinpaugh made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Molly Davis was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Wykoff, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
McCutcheon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Benton Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Rensselaer Central, falling 15-4.
Izzy Adams was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Hunter Biddle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles.
Benton Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for McCutcheon, their record now sits at 4-2.
Benton Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: McCutcheon has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Benton Central, though, as they've been averaging 11.2 hits. Given McCutcheon's sizable advantage in that area, the Bison will need to find a way to close that gap.
McCutcheon took their win against Benton Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
