Max Gimbel made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, Quentin Uhland was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Brady Olson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Army-Navy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They blew past Guajome Park Academy 11-0 last Friday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Warriors' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Like Rock Academy, Army-Navy also got a great game from a two-way player: Jacob Hester. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over 5.1 innings pitched. Hester was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Army-Navy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-12 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashton Little, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Army-Navy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Chun-Hsiang Chang, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Army-Navy's victory ended an eight-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13. As for Rock Academy, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3.
Army-Navy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rock Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .485. It's a different story for Army-Navy, though, as they've only averaged .365. Will they be able to contain Rock Academy's hitters?
Rock Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Army-Navy when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 7-5. Does Rock Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Army-Navy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
