Basketball Recap: Gibbs Comes Up Short

After flying high against Northeast last Wednesday, Gibbs came back down to earth. The Gibbs Gladiators were dealt a 58-23 loss at the hands of the Lakewood Spartans on Thursday. The Gladiators have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Lakewood had a senior duo take command as Alahni Lovett posted 16 points and seven steals and Sumayah McIntosh went 5 of 12 on her way to 11 points and seven steals. That's the most steals Lovett has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Paschal, who put up 11 points and six boards.

Gibbs' defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Lakewood, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-6.

Gibbs has already played their next game (against Hollins), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lakewood won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cardinal Mooney at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lakewood's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 contests.
