Softball Recap: Lyman Takes a Loss

Lyman fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against The First Academy on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Royals by a score of 10-9. The Greyhounds were not able to make up for their defeat to the Royals from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Emma Chauncey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brooke Proulx stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Kaitlin Stallworth also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Lyman has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. The victory was the third in a row for The First Academy, bringing their record up to 5-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lyman will welcome Lake Howell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lyman's pitchers better be ready for this one: Lake Howell has averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for The First Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Cloud at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Cloud's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so The First Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
