Basketball Recap: Hibriten Comes Up Short

Hibriten fought the good fight in their overtime match against Ashe County on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 71-64 to the Ashe County Huskies. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Ashe County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bryce Peters led the charge by putting up 26 points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, Peters is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Treva, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points and six boards.

Hibriten's defeat dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Ashe County, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-11 record.

Hibriten and Ashe County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Hibriten (ranked 575th) will meet Watauga (ranked 130th) at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Ashe County will square off against Freedom at 8:00 p.m. on Friday down 322 places (450 vs. 128).
