Softball Recap: Williston Red Devils vs. Newberry Panthers

Williston won the last time they faced Newberry and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Red Devils came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 7-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Red Devils.

Sarah Hollender made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Luna Asencion was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Layla Crago was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Williston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Williston's victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Newberry, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4.

Williston does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Newberry, they will take on Eastside at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.47 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
