Soccer Game Preview: Lincoln vs. Newton

The Lincoln Railsplitters will be taking part in a tournament against the Newton Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Newton took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Lincoln, who comes in off a win.

While Lincoln's win against Richland County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Railsplitters beat the Tigers by a goal, winning 2-1. The victory continues a trend for Lincoln in their matchups with Richland County: they've now won six in a row.

TJ Morris and Carter Ferguson scored both of Lincoln's goals, bringing their combined season tally to ten goals.

Meanwhile, Newton lost 5-1 to Mattoon on Friday. Newton haven't had much luck with Mattoon recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 13-3-1. As for Lincoln, their win bumped their record up to 3-13.

Lincoln came out on top in a nail-biter against Newton when the teams last played back in October of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Railsplitters have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
