Baseball Recap: Doniphan West Gets the Win

Doniphan West hadn't done well against Onaga recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Mustangs walked away with a 13-8 win over the Buffaloes. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 8-4 victory the Buffaloes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2023.

Kolter Peterson was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.

In other batting news, Hayden Paolino and Cooper Eberly did most of the damage at the plate: Paolino went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Eberly scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Eberly is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Tabin Clary, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Doniphan West and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Onaga, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Doniphan West beat the Buffaloes by a score of 5-1 later that day.
