Baseball Recap: St. Augustine Takes a Loss

St. Augustine easily dispatched Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The St. Augustine Purple Knights fell just short of the Archbishop Shaw Eagles by a score of 7-5 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Purple Knights have suffered since February 19, 2024.

St. Augustine got a good showing from Ivell Oatis, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Oatis has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jayden Jackson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. He is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stolen at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

St. Augustine's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Archbishop Shaw, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

St. Augustine and Archbishop Shaw's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. St. Augustine will challenge Belle Chasse at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, a squad that's only allowed three runs per game. St. Augustine is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games. Meanwhile, Archbishop Shaw and De La Salle (who has only given up four runs per game) will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Augustine is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
