Recap: Purdue Polytechnic Techies vs. Covenant Christian Warriors
On Tuesday, Purdue Polytechnic was able to grind out a solid victory over Covenant Christian, taking the game 66-54. Given Purdue Polytechnic's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Covenant Christian is ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Purdue Polytechnic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Derrick Johnson, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Antwan Dorsett, who scored 15 points.
Despite the loss, Covenant Christian still got an impressive performance from Nathan Crane, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Crane posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Crane, who scored nine points along with five assists.
Covenant Christian's lineup was just a bit different on Tuesday as Crane got a bit more time on the court (28 vs. his season average of 14.53). Crane made the most of the opportunity, scoring nine points along with five assists. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Purdue Polytechnic pushed their record up to 11-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Covenant Christian, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Purdue Polytechnic will head out on the road to square off against Indianapolis Arsenal Technical at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Indianapolis Arsenal Technical focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Saturday. As for Covenant Christian, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Triton Central at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st. Hopefully Covenant Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
