Basketball Recap: Buhach Colony Thunder vs. Merced Bears
Buhach Colony was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 93-45 defeat at the hands of the Merced Bears. While losing is never fun, the Thunder can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 737th, while the Bears are ranked 245th).
Despite the loss, Buhach Colony had strong showings from Elijah Garza, who posted 13 points, and Carter Chapman, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hector Alcantar, who had eight points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Merced to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jovian Martinez, who went 7 of 9 to rack up 20 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Martinez a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Aiden Matsuo, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 14 points and seven assists.
Buhach Colony's defeat dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Merced, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.
