Baseball Recap: Mountain Pointe Triumphs

After low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Mountain Pointe brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They came out on top against the Maricopa Rams by a score of 12-8 on Friday. Considering the Pride's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Devin Montes tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Teague McCarthy, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Leo Lopez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Mountain Pointe's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Maricopa, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Coming up, Mountain Pointe will face off against Arizona College Prep at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pride will need to watch out since the Knights have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Maricopa, they will challenge Mesa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Jackrabbits have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.57 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
