Softball Recap: McCall-Donnelly Takes a Loss

McCall-Donnelly extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They came up short against the Payette Pirates, falling 12-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Vandals have suffered against the Pirates since May 10, 2022.

McCall-Donnelly saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Val Sofaly, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one double. That double was Sofaly's first of the season.

As for Payette, they moved to 5-11 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

On Payette's side, Anna Moreno made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Moreno was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Payette let Haylo Collingwood and Maddy Brown run wild. Collingwood went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Brown went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those four RBI gave Collingwood a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucia Walker, who earned one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases.

While McCall-Donnelly had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
