Baseball Recap: Kennedy Comes Up Short

Kennedy came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-1 to the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 4-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2017.

Kennedy got a good showing from Alonso Ortiz, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, Ortiz gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

Kennedy has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Sierra Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kennedy will square off against Banning at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pilots' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Sierra Canyon, they will face off against Saugus at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
